LIUNA Announces Disaffiliation with AFL-CIO PDF Print E-mail

LIUNA International General President Terry O'Sullivan announced on June 22, 2006 that LIUNA, our Union's parent body, would be disaffiliating with the AFL-CIO.  On the same date, National President John Hegarty announced his intention, in conjunction with LIUNA, of continuing discussions with the AFL-CIO to create some type of affiliation betwen the NPMHU and the AFL-CIO.

June 5, 2006 PLEASE POST ON ALL BULLETIN BOARDS To: All Members of Local 301, NPMHU, LIUNA RE: LIUNA Disaffiliation from AFL-CIO On May 22, 2006, Laborer's International General President Terry O'Sullivan announced that LIUNA would be disaffiliating from the AFL-CIO effective June 1, 2006. Please review your Branch's Bulletin Board for full text of President Hegarty's letter addressing the disaffilation issue, in which he notes 'continuing discussions' between the NPMHU and the AFL-CIO in the hopes of forming some type of affiliation between the NPMHU and the AFL-CIO. At a Union Meeting attended by President Hegarty on June 4, in Portland, Maine, President Hegarty expanded on his remarks concerning the issue of LIUNA's disaffiliation with the AFL-CIO and the standing of the NPMHU regarding our current situation to state that it is our hope that we remain affiliated with the AFL-CIO and that some manner of affiliation will be accomplished in the near future.
