Local 301 has learned that the Postal Service intends to perform an, "Interim Consolidation" plan that will result in the processing of all mixed states standard letter mail at three sites in the Northeast Area effective Monday, April 18, 2005.

The Postal Service intends to consolidate the processing of mixed states standard letters, now processed in most mail processing facilities in the Northeast Area, to three locations:  Northwest Boston, MA, Hartford, CT and Buffalo, NY.

Most mail processing facilities along the eastern portion of New England, including (but not limited to) Bangor and Portland, ME, Portsmouth and Manchester, NH, Middlesex-Essex, Brockton, Cape Cod and Boston, MA and Providence, RI will have their mixed states standard letter mail processed out of the Northwest Boston (Waltham) MA facility.

Most other New England facilities will have their mixed states standard letter mail processed out of the Hartford, CT facility, while facilities west of the New England Area will have their mixed states standard letter mail processed out of the Buffalo, NY facility.  This 'interim consolidation' plan is expected to run from April 18, 2005 until approximately October of this year at which point the Service intends to consolidate all mixed states standard letters processing operations to the Springfield, MA Bulk Mail Center (see related article).

This is the first step in a consolidation effort that will significantly change the face of all Mail Processing facilities in New England.  the Union will provide more details as they become available.  Please check this site and consult your Union Bulletin Boards for more information.

Please plan on attending your next Union Meeting to discuss these and other important changes to the face of the Postal Service as we know it!
