The Postal Service provided written notification at a Regional Level to the Union in a letter written from the MA District Headquarters to the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, Regional Headquarters, announcing a February 3, 2007 consolidation date of the L&DC into the Springfield, MA Bulk Mail Center. Postal Service Announces Effective Date of Springfield, MA Bulk Mail Center & Logistical and Distribution Center Consolidation On December 20, 2006, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union received Notification at a Regional Level from the Postal Service that the effective date of the merger between the Springfield, MA Bulk Mail Center (BMC) and the Springfield, MA Logistical and Distribution Center (L&DC) will be February 3, 2007. In accordance with the notification letter, all Mail Handler duty assignments posted for bid after the effective date of the merger will be posted and available for bid to all buildings (Bulk Mail Center, Processing and Distribution Center, Logistical and Distribution Center and Springfield Post Office) within the current Springfield BMC bidding process, along with the addition of the L&DC. The Union and the Postal Service have set an informational meeting between Local Officers, current Branch Officers and Management Representatives of the Springfield BMC, L&DC, Massachusetts District as well as Northeast Area Representatives slated for January 5, 2007 to discuss transitional details surrounding the merger.
