Branch President Prairie Negotiates Settlement that Includes Conversion of Current PTF's, Hiring of 24 New Mail Handlers and other Considerations to Craft

Branch #18 President Jack Prairie reached accord with the USPS on an agreement to settle pending cases contending the violation of Article 7.1 of the National Agreement in exchange for an agreement to hire 24 New Mail Handlers, conversion of current PTF's and other considerations in the Providence, RI Branch.

Providence, RI Branch # 18 President Jack Prairie reached agreement with the USPS in an accord that settled pending grievances concerning the improper hiring and employment of casuals in lieu of career Mail Handlers in the Providence Plant in exchange for the conversions of existing Part Time Flexible (PTF) Mail Handlers, the imnmediate hiring of twenty-four (24) new career Mail Handlers, with an additional proviso that requires that the Postal Service replace any new hire that leaves the Postal Service for any reason during the first ninety (90) days of employment.  The settlement agreement further establishes a procedure for the establishment of temporary details for higher level jobs in the Mansfield, RI Annex so as to not adversely impact Mail Handlers with established duty assignments in the Plant.

Congratulations to Branch President Prairie and the team of professional Stewards in Branch # 18.  Branch President Prairie's decision to extract the hiring of twenty-four new Mail Handlers for the Providence Plant as well as the conversion of long-suffering PTF's demonstates Jack's committment to put the growth of the Union and the long term  good of the membership in his Branch first.  Great job Brother Prairie!
