Branch President Creamer Settles 'Casual In Lieu Of' case in Exchange for New Hires and Cash

The White River Junction, VT Branch of Local 301 has prevailed in another 'Casuals In Lieu Of' Career employees case, resolving a grievance on the issue in exchange for a Corrective Action that includes an agreement with the USPS to hire seven additional career Mail Handlers and almost $40,000.00 in cash payments to be distributed to Mail Handlers both on the Overtime Desired List (OTDL) and those who are not on the OTDL in the WRJ Branch.

White River Junction, VT Branch President Bill Creamer signed an agreement yesterday to resolve a greivance that identified the Postal Service to be in violation of Article 7.1 of the National Agreement in regards to the hiring and employment of Casuals In Lieu Of Career Mail Handlers in White River Junction.
The Settlement identifies a resolution that will include the hiring of an additional seven career Mail Handlers in the WRJ Branch as well as distribution of $39,450.00 in cash payments to be distributed to all Mail Handlers in the WRJ Branch.

This settlement comes on the heels of a 2003 Abritration Decision in the WRJ Facility that resulted in payments of $312,000.00 to Mail Handlers in the WRJ, VT facility.

Congratulations to Branch President Creamer and his stewards for continuing to hold the Postal Service to the terms of the National Agreement with regard to hiring casuals instead of career Mail Handlers.  Branch President Creamer's hard work in bringing the Postal Service to the bargaining table and compelling them to hire more career Mail Handlers is the type of settlement that keeps our Union vibrant and strong.  It ensures that Mail Handlers will continue to perform Mail Handler duties in the White River Junction P&DC, not interlopers.
